The Big Rocks
We don’t have problems that we can’t solve…together. That’s the truth. In WW2, a scrapy upstart of a country stepped into the largest war that the world had seen until then, and did what needed to be done. From the women working at home in factories to the rationing of food and gas, whatever needed to be done to fight a war that wasn’t even ours, we did. That’s the spirit of this great nation. When rocks land in our way, we move them.
Climate change is just another rock. Mass shootings…another. But we can’t seem to move them. Why? The answer is obvious: we’re not working together. There are people lying to us, lying to our friends, who want nothing more than to line their pockets or eke out a little bit of power. It’s sad that such people exist in the world, but what’s even more sad is that they are skilled liars, and have corrupted the minds of a lot of this nation’s good people. We can’t continue like this. We just can’t.
Not Like the Others…
Assault rifles. You know the real things that are threats to the children (as opposed to drag queens, transvestites, or whatever the right would have you think). And climate change, another thing that’s killing people across the United States.
Hot Time in Old San Antone
This week, with heat index, it was over a hundred and seventeen degrees in San Antonio, Texas. The Atlantic ocean is up over 4 degrees in the last year. All signs point to these changes being man-made, and yet, governments have comprehensively failed to do enough to contain the problem. Cue individual action. In Montana, a group of 18-22 year-olds have just finished their courtroom appearance in order to force Montana to regulate their emissions. The kids argument? Montana is killing our future by not requiring environmental impact studies for their fossil fuel projects. Montana’s argument? In a nutshell, it’s too hard.
Strange Way to Celebrate Earth Day…
So what’s the negotiation in the debt ceiling that the republicans want? They want to undo student loan forgiveness, stop advances on climate change, and then it’s “drill, baby, drill.” It’s their own special gift to the energy industry (remember? the same energy industry that lied to the American people about climate change). The Republicans are lying about what energy independence looks like, and the impact of the work that they do.
So if you’re thinking about Earth Day, this is the exact oppposite of Earth Day. The Republican strategy is to bring the world to the brink of economic ruin in order to bring the world to the brink of climate change destruction. Are they saying this? No, not at all. It’s all upside for them anyway. If they manage to tank the world economy while Biden is in charge, then we Americans with our short memories will forget and then elect the very perpetrators of the problem.
That’s only the start of this episode. Then we discuss everyone’s favorite topic: reparations. And what’s that for?
One Event, Two Event, Three Event, Ignore
Every so often, Right and Freedom circle back around to the topic of climate change. Today, we’re in the aftermath of a series of tornados that struck in Alabama and Mississippi. We’ve seen the problems of extreme weather along the East Coast and West Coast of the United States.
Surely something so pivotal as climate change is being taken seriously? So certainly Fox News would have some guidance on how to handle climate change. But…that’s not what we found. What we found was a bunch of blame-the-libs articles, culminating in Tucker Carlson’s attacks against the “global climate change agenda.” Let’s be clear on this. Climate change is real. Not preparing for it is irresponsible and reckless, and yet that’s (according to these headlines) the desired stance of Fox News.
Maybe we should stop listening to them before we all die.
