Hot Time in Old San Antone
This week, with heat index, it was over a hundred and seventeen degrees in San Antonio, Texas. The Atlantic ocean is up over 4 degrees in the last year. All signs point to these changes being man-made, and yet, governments have comprehensively failed to do enough to contain the problem. Cue individual action. In Montana, a group of 18-22 year-olds have just finished their courtroom appearance in order to force Montana to regulate their emissions. The kids argument? Montana is killing our future by not requiring environmental impact studies for their fossil fuel projects. Montana’s argument? In a nutshell, it’s too hard.
Okay, that’s a paraphrase. What they actually said was that Montana requiring controls on drilling would make such a minimal difference that it’s not worth doing. What?! This mentality exactly what will kill us all.
In other news, though, Multnomah County is suing 15 different fossil fuel companies for the heat dome that killed approximately 800 people. That’s right. People are starting to pay attention and make changes for themselves. Good for them. But Montana is partially right. No, not about that they shouldn’t make changes, but that Montana making changes isn’t enough. We all must make changes to head off climate change.
Every. Single. One. Of. Us.
