Eat the Rich?

A lot of folks now are rightly irritated at the fact that the rich in this country seem to just keep getting richer, and the rest of us…barely getting by. But they earned that money, right? Sure, pal. While driving on our roads, and polluting our air, and destroying our climate. And what do they pay for that? If their money is tied up in investments, not a red cent. Investments are only taxed when money goes in or comes out. The vast majority of billionaire wealth is tied up in investments, and very little of it is actually taxable.

And also, what do you need that billion dollars for? As our co-host says, there’s nothing you can do with $1 billion that you can’t also do with $850 million. How does it impact your daily life, Mr. or Ms. Billionaire? It doesn’t. And yet, every time we discuss taxing the rich, hordes of people who will never be rich (no matter how many times you skip on the avocado toast) jump to their defense. Stop me if this sounds familiar: taxation is theft. So let me ask you the inverse (because likely you’re not a billionaire): how would $150 million impact your life?

There’s never been a working economy without some sort of taxation. This is the truth. There are shared things that, as a community, we can do that individuals (however well-meaning) won’t. Things like the world’s number-one military, like crime reduction by virtue of actual support programs instead of lip-service

Eat the Rich?

No. But asking them to pay their fair share shouldn’t be that controversial.
