Burning Down the House
An allegory:
You have two children. One of the children suffers in school, is barely passing, and maybe sometimes acts up in class. The other child runs around with a pack of matches and is intent on burning down your house. Which child do you trust more to leave home alone?
It’s that bad. You have one political party which has already set women’s rights back 50 years. Directly caused by the three extremist justices appointed by Donald Trump, we also see during a time of runaway global warming our governments ability to hold corporations accountable slowly atrophied away. One political party, largely at the behest of one man, is off the rails. They are actively in the process of “burning down the house”— and not in a good way.
But if you are still confused, start with the policies and effects and work backward from there. Ignore the bluster and the speeches, and look at the direct impact of policies enacted. You will see, time and time again, why we talk about the Republicans generally, and Donald Trump specifically, are working to undermine our democracy, erode our rights, and consolidate power so that we can’t fix it. You know what to do.
