Alabama Self-Own

What’s going on in Alabama right now? This episode was recorded just after Alabama decided that embryos are children. The ridiculousness of this is all clear to anyone who values science. An embryo, for clarity, is a fertilized egg. That’s anything from the second to eighth week of pregnancy. We’re talking about pre-fetus.

But guess what? Now, in Alabama at least, that fertilized egg is a child, and so all these strict abortion laws apply to the fertilized egg. It’s pretty backwards if you think about it. The net result? People who want children can’t have them (i.e. no IVF), and people who don’t want children are forced to have them (anti-abortion). One might assume that there’s also help for all of those unwanted children from the state, since they’re forcing women to bear children they don’t want. One would be wrong. Alabama doesn’t support their families past the ability to bear children. Even then, Alabama is ranked 5th worse maternal death rate.

This is what happens when you supplant reason with ideology.
