God’s Will?
When we call ourselves a nation, what does it mean? What does it mean when we talk about god’s will? Why would Right and Freedom be discussing this (when given our previous episodes, you can understand our position as not being so concerned with religion)?
The reason religion keeps coming into our conversations is simple: religion matters because most of America is religious. Over 70% of Americans are overtly religious (i.e. claim it on forms). Of those, the majority are Christian, and of those, the majority are Protestant. I grew up Protestant, so I know a bit about the denomination. The point that I remember mostly was that anyone can make it to heaven by believing in Jesus. That’s it. Seems simple enough, right? Except that believing really wasn’t all of it. Part of it was to try to be like Jesus Christ in our actions and thoughts.
This seems to be missing from most protestants these days (at least those falling in line behind Donald Trump). There’s no way Jesus would be in the Republican Party, as it stands today. And yet…moral authority is claimed perpetually. Don’t buy it. Instead of the hate, ask yourself this simple question: WWJD? Because that’s what matters, not the other stuff.
