A Future We Can Still Have

As the Supreme Court strikes down right after right, it’s important to understand what happened here. Nearly fifty years of work went into demolishing our hereto-forth most prestigious of American institutions. The justices involved were mostly appointed by minority governments, installing each for a lifetime. The judges hail from fringe Christianity (cults) and frat parties and others, but when it comes to it, they all originated in one place: the Federalist Society judges list.

In other words, the fix is in.

We all know this, if we didn’t know it before. By now, our Democractic lawmakers are realizing that you can’t negotiate with a bad-faith partner.

It’s time to start acting like it. That’s why we see things happening such as Democrats funding far-right candidates and shoe-in Democrats who don’t necessarily tow the party line. Listen to our party for more details on how this works, but suffice it to say that these are strategic moves designed to keep the Democratic majorities we have and add some others. We won’t like it. Purists will complain about how it’s not really playing by the rules.

Democrats can’t be the only team playing by the rules. That’s how we lose. Remember, in the United States, the long arc of the moral universe doesn’t bend on its own, but with the blood, sweat, and tears of United States citizens.
