Get Off the Bench

Texas is a derivation of a Caddo word that was spelled ‘tejas’ by the Spanish a couple of centuries back. Does anyone want to guess what that Caddo word translates to in English?

Friend.

Only Texas isn’t being so friendly these days. With the Republicans having gerrymandered the hell out of the state there’s little possibility that the Democrats (and there are a lot of Democrats in Texas) can really win statewide. The Texas legislature slowly works to give guns more rights than people, and the senators from there (and the governor) tend to play up the immigration situation as a crisis (a thirty-year crisis, mind you, during most of which Republicans have been in charge, so not sure why they haven’t solved that yet). Those pesky Republicans keep getting voted back in because…well gerrymandering, and the help of an attorney general who’s wanted for securities fraud (among other things). On that last part, Note that Ken Paxton (said attorney general) also openly admitted to blocking millions of votes during Trump’s re-election campaign.

The state isn’t a “friend”, not even to its citizens. But it can be. There are enough good people in the state to swing it. You just have to want to. So Texas, this is us at Right and Freedom: please want to. Live up to your name!
