Racism is the new Racism
It took a long time throughout the history of this nation to even make it as far as we have to address what most of us believe to be a historic wrong. We believe in meritocracy, at least in the concept. I think this is true regardless of where one sits on the political spectrum. Now here’s the deal: we don’t live in a meritocracy. We couldn’t possibly, because we’re only a generation away from when Jim Crow laws were still active and well. Society simply doesn’t change that fast, and the idea that we’re somehow beyond racism is an idea that I’m sure makes some people feel better, but it’s patently untrue. I can’t help but consider the famous quote about the devil here:
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince the world that he does not exist.
So when we see the racism, attacks on DEI, the alleged “woke mind virus,” and the lingering laws and moving goalposts of what does and doesn’t constitute “real racism,” then we know the truth.
