People Dying is Political
We talk about politics like it's a dirty word, because we have the luxury of not having to remember what it was like before cordial public discourse. We may find out, but we don't really know. We think that human beings in the United States are somehow immune to the habits of humans in other countries. We must remember, though, that if there's not politics happening, then there's violence. "War is politics by other means," roughly suggests a universal truth: war is what happens when politics doesn't work. That's the truth, and it's been proven throughout history. So if you're "not into politics," then you have to understand that you're eliminating the one way we have of resolving differences short of violence. It either happens in the legistlative chambers, or in the streets. The decision is ours.
